hello, im wondering if anybody could help me. I’m planning on doing some DIY in my kitchen. I got a cupboard underneath the stairs but the door on it is quite short so I have to duck down each time I have to get something. What I would like to do is make the opening higher only for around 30cm which would leave 40cm to the celling or 30cm if I take into consideration concrete lintel of 10cm height.
I think the wall is load bearing as I can see there is a wood beam sitting on top of the wall and floor joists slot into it. I attached few pictures. My question is as I would like only to make it slightly higher do I need to support the celling and the joists if I decide to cut the wall and insert a lintel. The wall itself is built of grey blocks. Not sure what type they are. I wouldn’t cut the wall any wider only 30cm higher + 10cm for the lintel. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

You can cut out the blocks and install your frame without needing a lintel.

You may find that you will need to remove the bit of the wall vertically above the opening right up to the stair string, and then either make it good after installing the frame, or make a feature of it with a panel above the frame

Thank you for your reply. Why do you think I might not need a lintel ? Im only worried that the blocks above might collapse once I remove the frame and start cutting. I’m not a builder clearly but do a lot of diy around the house nothing structural(ish)
Thank you :)

Are you planning to fit a normal door and frame with the stairs angle behind the closed door, or are you fitting an angled frame and door with the top RH corner cut off?

I’m not sure yet.. what would you recommend? I don’t mind either way. I was considering both options but whatever is easier / safer to do. Widht of the current door is 68cm...
I would maybe fit a door made out of MDF if the door is angled and the frame or if I can fit a normal door if I get the height required as I would rather cut the wall as little as possible just to be on safe side.
Thank you for your help much appreciated :)
