Eurocylinder size ?

I don't disagree....lots of Golf R's have gone missing lately with the same method of gaining entry. Granted, some have been window/door destroying but most seem to report lock snapping.
I don't do it now as I work in insurance assessment but in a previous life I worked the UK'S largest and left and went to work for the UK'S second largest emergency glazing and locksmithing companies, I did about 15 years between them and not once did I ever see a break in via snapping or bumping. However I saw countless break ins while the homeowners were in bed and windows jemmied open and keys stolen, I also attended plenty when violence was involved, knives held to throats, guns to heads just for the car keys, the guys that want your car for a ram raid or an armed robbery in the future aren't too bothered about tippy toeing about snapping or bumping so I found, I once saw a solid hardwood back door kicked in so hard it was snapped in 2........not really a quiet break in!

I don't disagree but just because you have no experience doesn't mean it's not happening....lots of Golf R's have gone missing lately with the same method of gaining entry. Granted, some have been window/door destroying but most seem to report lock snapping. Below are some recent threads from just one forum I visit

http://www.vwroc.com/forums/topic/19244-attempted-theft/ - See the post from the OP about the guy working on the lock
http://www.vwroc.com/forums/topic/17907-house-broken-in-to-for-keys/ - A large thread but aside from the OP there are other theft reports IIRC

Reason i asked was there are many anecdotal stories referencing lock snapping , i just wondered how many people had come across themselves...makes me wonder how many of the stories are 100% accurate. From what ive seen most burglars go through open windows or break sealed units in windows..imo doors are one of the mosr secure features of a house these days

Except they aren't. Euro cylinders have been fitted by house builders for a number of years now, refurbs end up with PVC or composite doors again with Euro cylinders. Unless you have a 2 star with rated handles or a 3 star lock you're vulnerable. Locking pliers and a screwdriver is all you need, it takes seconds and makes next to no noise on a cheap cylinder. Why break a window when you can get it super easily anyway?

I agree it is easy to snap them ...even the antisnap ones are snappable if you get hold of the right point...thing is Youtube has a lot to answer to for making it very public how to do it.
It must be more prevalent in certain areas of the country then, as both myself and Crank are in the trade and don't seem to come across it in our areas.
BUT what i will say , is its not you opportunist thief by the looks of things from the links you have provided , so to be honest they probably would have got in one way or another in the end to get those car keys. I would bet those cars are being stolen to order....
