We have been insulating a roof space and needed to extend the lighting cable so that it drops beneath the extra insulation and plasterboard. The original cabling was grey with 3 wires - after speaking to someone at B&Q they recommended extending the cable with "0.5mm 2 wire" - which we have done using a connector. The earth which we thought we didn't need is screwed into connecting block and taped with insulating tape. Plasterboard is now up and covering the wiring. (Being skimmed tomorrow) The fuse box keeps tripping - i'd be grateful for any ideas on cause??? Thanks very much

Ye gods . . . Good luck with this one. You're gonna need it. First bit of advice is to remove the plasterboard, and cancel the plasterer for tomorrow.

You need to ring your plasterer and cancel him until you have got an electrician to come and sort out your wiring for you.

Not being deliberatly nasty here, but you really don't have the first clue what you're doing.

You should also report the B&Q employee

Makes you wonder what other advice they have given out.

Please, please, please. STOP NOW!!! Cancel the plasterer and get someone who knows what they're doing to sort you out.

You wouldn't dream of doing this with your gas. Electricity done wrong is just as dangerous.
