Extending Upstairs Ring Final

I extended the Ring Final in my bedroom to add 3 more double sockets.

I did this by, at the current double socket by the bedroom door, I put an unswitched FCU next to it, & connected one of the two T+E cables from the current double socket to the supply side of the FCU, & the other T+E cable to the double socket.

I then put up some 25 by 16mm Mini-Trunking around to where the new double sockets were going, & also fixed up the surface boxes for the new sockets.

I then connected a new piece of 2.5mm T+E to the current double socket by the door, & put it in the mini-trunking around to where the first two new double sockets were going.

I then connected a other new piece of 2.5mm T+E to the supply side of the FCU, & put it in the mini-trunking around to where the 2nd new double socket was going.

I then at the 1st new socket striped the cables and connected them to the new double socket, I then did the the same at the 2nd new socket, but had three T+E's as the 3rd new socket I spured off from the 2nd new sockets. At the 3rd new socket I spured it off from the 2nd new socket.

The Unswitched FCU will be to supply the pump for the shower in the shower room, which is below my bedroom.

Also at the back of the bedroom I have added a spur socket, by using a piece of 2.5mm T+E run in 16 by 16mm Mini-Trunking, to run from the old socket to the spur socket.

So now there are six double sockets in the bedroom, whereas there was only two double sockets in the bedroom before.

Nice job for a diyer, mini trunking work leaves a bit to be desired below the socket and boxes look a bit drunk but still not bad for a diyer.

What do you mean by that

All there is is two pieces of 2.5mm T+E in the 25 by 16mm Mini-Trunking, & one piece of 2.5mm T+E in the 16 by 16mm Mini-Trunking.

Space factor:

The ratio (%) of the sum of the overall area of cables (inc insulation & sheath) to the internal csa of the cable enclosure they are installed in.

For trunking the space factor should not exceed 45%.

wiring looks fine, trunking is a little messy but its hard to avoid that when taking a trunking feed off an existing flush accessory.

white T&E would have looked better but i think you can only get it in lsf sheath now which makes it a bit more expensive.

according to the table on that site the spacing factor also seems fine

All looks a bit messy to me, couldnt you have moved the original socket with the pipes below it and put the original cables in trunking? And why install the two side by side doubles with one being a spur, you could have easily have made them both ring sockets, the wiring behind looks little tight too so if you have to change one of the sockets because of a fault if the terminals are in a different location then your stuffed.

Top tip for you - keep things simple. You seem to overcomplicate things immensely especially in the thread you have open about re-wiring your shed.

All the existing Sockets upstairs are surface mounted, apart from the landing socket which is flush mounted.

I would have like to moved the original socket & put the original cables in trunking, but I couldn't because the original cables come up through the floor about 5cm or so away from the skirting board, & at the bottom of the original socket is a hole in the wall through which two 2.5mm T+Es go to supply the socket, FCU (For 2 TV sockets up by ceiling, 1 in Main bedroom & 1 in My Bedroom) & Spur socket in the main bedroom. Also the bookcase in my bedroom just about fits on the wall which the original socket is on.

Top tip for you - keep things simple. You seem to overcomplicate things immensely especially in the thread you have open about re-wiring your shed.

What is overcomplicated about how I am going to rewire the shed

The piece of 2.5mm T+E which is not connected will go to the load side of the FCU, & is going to be for the Shower Pump.


What size fuse do shower pumps normally need in the FCU which supplys them

just out of curiosity, what is behind the blank plate above the 2 new sockets?

also, spuring the third socket off the second is not good practice when you could easily replace one leg and make it a ring..
