We have a microwave oven, which has a grill and convection oven built in, but it has just packed in .... the turntable won't turn.

Is it worth trying to fix it ?

No doubt electrical repair companies have a high initial fee, for their inspection, then, if they can fix the problem, the cost will probably be high too.

The oven cost £169, about 4 years ago. It's a Sharp R-890SLM.

thanks for any advice

It probably needs a new turntable motor so it should be possible for a repairer to quote you a repair price over the phone. I don't normally suggest people attempt DIY repairs on microwaves but changing the turntable motor can sometimes be done with minimal dismantling. On some models there is a round inspection cover on the underside of the appliance which needs to be broken off (you will see what I mean if you take a look) and can be re-fitted using a couple of self tapper screws. There is then just a couple of wires and screws to remove to change the motor.
