Final Payment - how much?

Having an extension costing around £50,000. How much should be held back until the job has been completed? :rolleyes:

As much as the builder will let you get away with holding back.
 
10%, get it aggreed prior to starting. pay 5% of this on completion and then the other 5% after 6 months.

Even this seems a bit high in the modern procurement climate. I would suggest 5% reducing to 2.5% on completion, then balance on 6 months.

As stated by both Static and a previous poster - get it in the agreement and there will be no come back.
