This is doing my head in!

I'm trying to replace my current sink with a new one, but am having trouble finding one that will fit given the current cut-outs.

The width of any new sink seems to be a big issue, here's why:
- current sink is 48cm wide
- 1.7cm behind the sink is the tap
- the width of the sink, to behind the tap hole is 54cm.
- the cut out is 45.5cm wide.

So I either need to find a sink that:
- has a 45.5 cutout, OR
- is between between 48-49.7cm Wide, OR
- is over 54cm wide.

I cannot for my life find a sink that fits.

Can anyone help - or have any ideas? The worktop is laminate.

Thanks so much for any pearls of wisdom!

Ross
(apologies for re-post in plumbing, but not sure which form was best for this issue)

Does your current sink have a brand on it? Can't you just get one bigger and make the hole bigger with a jigsaw? Position of taps is irrelevant, the pipes will bend into place or use new flexi tails.

Of course I can make the hole larger.

The issue is whether a new sink will either leave enough space for the old tap in place, or, be large enough to cover the old tap hole.

It's an Ikea sink - I could replace it with another horrible stainless steal Ikea sink.

Is it the 'stainless' or the 'Ikea' part that makes it horrible to you? I happen to think that both are rather good.

So the tap goes through the work top and not the sink, ahh. You can get hole cutters to cut tap holes in stainless, you can also get blanking caps to cover holes in reversable sinks. Maybe you could silicone one of these down over the tap hole? All you need is the right bits and some jiggery pokery.

Lots of sinks to fit those dimensions, but you did not give the length so no one can help.

Length can be whatever :) - 800mm or more (probably up to 1200).

But it should fit in a 600mm unit.

Thanks
