HI, I am looking to buy a replacement thermostat for an old warm air unit in the uk. Been advised to get a 24v volt free thermostat ( there is just 2 wires ) but not finding it easy to find one for sale with both those words in the description . Anybody got any ideas of ones i can seek out? thankyou

The cheap Honeywell ones (eg on Screwfix website) would be ok for this. They are really intended for 240V mains connections but will work reasonably well as a simple switch with only 2 wires connected.

If you would prefer a more expensive programmable thermostat then maybe let us know what appeals and someone will help with the wiring. Certainly the nest thermostat could be used in your system.

Most basic mechanical thermostats require a Neutral as well as Live connected to enable the accelerator to operate and reduce the difference between the temperature at which the switch closes ( heating ON ) and the temperature at which the switch opens ( heating OFF ).

The Honeywell data includes this :-
  • 10 to 30°C Temperature Range
  • Suitable for All Boilers
  • 3-Wire Installation
  • Mains-Powered
  • Without Display
  • Insulated
  • Without Frost Protection
  • Fits Custom Backplate
  • Heat Anticipator for Close Temperature Control
  • Change-Over Contact Switching

The Heat Anticipator is another name for the accelerator.

A battery operated thermostat with electronic temperature sensor would be a better option
