We are just planning a 2 storey extension to the side of our house.

How do I go about locating any underground pipes before commencing any digging work ?
Does the local Council or Building Control have details of all pipes laid ?

Yes but don't always believe the drawing!

Normally when the drawing goes in for planning, the BCO carry out the survey and any problems will be put on a attachment note if planning is passed. The problem I'm quoting is, if someone has put in an extra toilet pipework or whatever without the authorized from the BCO.

I always take great care and never assumed the drawing is right!

Lift a man hole near the house, flush loo and see which way the water goes  Measure the depth there is aprox. a 1in 40 fall to 4 inch drains. Search around and find the next manhole.and so on. Take no`wt for granted.I live on an estate next to the main road BUT my drains go away from the road for another 6 houses before going out into the estate road :!:
