Fireplace Lintel

Hi i was just looking for some help on Lintel placement on my chimney breast.
I want to place it just above the bricks that are vertically hanging down, This will then enable me to get a hole in the wall fire installed after some brickwork is knocked out.

Any help would be appreciated thank you.

Thanks for that Richard its gives me some idea although your lintel was massive compared to the 70 x 110mm lintel that would be going into mine!

Looks like that one was a bit of a job, All the brickwork round mine looks a little dodgy so i think I'm going to get my builder friend round to double check what's what then rope him into doing it
Once that's done i can carry on with the floating wall around the chimney with an inset gas fire.
