Hi, I am about to run the cables to the socket positions in a new extension and I have a query I wanted to check.

I am dropping the cables from the ceiling to the socket position ( because of concrete floor).

Where there are 2 sockets on the same wall (e.g. at either end of a room), is the cable allowed to travel horizontally between the 2, or does it need to go back up to the ceiling and drop down again?

Thanks in advance :)

Nothing wrong with running the cable horizontally, as long as the cable comes out of the side of the boxes, and remains at that level.

However, these cables can get in the way in the future when adding sockets, tv points etc. Or even if you add a doorway in the future.
Not likely of course, but I prefer vertical cable runs.

And you have to be careful how deep you make horizontal chases or the wall might collapse.

When you applied for Building Regulations approval, what did you tell your LABC would be the way you would ensure compliance with Part P?
