I wish to start my own company doing data communications, security systems and electrical installations.

I have applied to do my 2330 c&g electrical qualifications at college but waiting for a place to become available.

I can install data networks now but am i legally allowed to install security systems without my electrical qualifications.

I wish to be able to work on a part time basis until my electrical courses are complete.

Many thanks in advance.

you can.
But, you cant fit an FCU to power it, and you have to install them to the latest European regulations as well as the kit you install being up to the latest Eurpean regulations

am i not even allowed to take a spur off a socket ring main to the fcu?

So if the alarm was an upgrade to an old system then i would be ok?

1) no, try a search for part p

2) yes

q do you know how to install an intruder alarm? (sorry but i dont know what you do or do not know)

are you aware you can only install bells only systems as you are (probably) not registed as such to do otherwise

are you aware most intruder alarms are installed for insurance company requirements? (they only recomend specialist companies, bit of a catch 22 situation)

intruder alarms are a very cut throat business, some companies install them for a couple of hundred quid (then get on their horses and go)

hmm i thought you could add a FCU for an alarm as long as it wasn't in a special location.

depends really where its fitted.

also its adding to the circuit, so that means the whole ring should be tested etc.

i also forgot to metnion little chance of installling alsrms in commercial premises, becuse of adding the fcu, must be done by qualified spark (insurance reasons should anything go wrong) and again those damn insurance companies will want a known company)

So what consistutes one of them then? (not having a dig, just it seems to be one of those things that everyone says, but no one can really come up with a definition)

commercial premises is one that is not domestic.

it could for example be a house (normally domestic) but used as say an office it then becomes commercial

please note i said house, not bedroom used as officce

I can fit a security system, I have fitted quite a few scantronic 9650 panels, and also a galaxy 8 and texecom veritas panel.

I realise the issue regarding bells only and insurance requirements, but i wish to offer alarms cheaper than the known companies for people that just require piece of mind.

Also i want to specialise in alarm upgrades and cctv upgrades.

I am hoping to do my electrical qualifications as soon as i get a place.

i wish you luck. (i really do)

why should I upgrade the alarm because its old? it still works, nothing wrong with it.

is a typical comment.

also most companies rent the kit so upgrades are free.

people who want piece of mind and dont want to worry go to some one thy have heard of, not some one they don't know becasue they want piece of mind (no offence but it is true)

if you go round offering to do them cheaper than others people will start looking for your horse.

also cctv has to be licenced too if it can see joe public

no fraid not, if cctv can see joe public it has to have a licence, dont think its costs alot, may even be free.

something to with data protection act / human rights, it also it has to be rgistered with some body or another that it can see joe bloggs.

I totally agree with this, we deal with one of the large supermarkets, so they are responcable for the Data Protection side of things, and when fitting coverts with no signs, well thats another story.....

As for joe public, I've lost count of how many customers ask for cameras on their homes, looking out in the road, over neighbours gardens, etc etc, you have to remember privacy and data protection.

As for Alarms, good luck, its a grudge purchase for most ppl, no one wants one unless they've been broken into. And then there's always someone else trying to undercut you.

I had one cancelled earlier today, because they had a cheaper quote, didnt have to pay VAT because a one man band is doing it, but you get what you pay for.
