am trying to fit sunvic tlx7501 room thermostat the old thermostat has 4 wires coming out.looks like mains with red,black and earth and another black wire.which wires do i use and where do they go 1, 2 or 3.

You need to determine the function of the existing wires.
You will have permanent live, switched live, neutral and earth. I would GUESS that red will be permanent live, the black in the same cable will be neutral, and the other black the switched live. You must identify the cables correctly BEFORE you do anything else.
Once you have identified them, permanent live and switched live go to terminals com and on, respectively. The neutral and earth are not needed for this stat and must be safely terminated.
