Hi all, just found this site and it seems really good, here is my question,
can the mains cable on a chimney cooker hood and a gas hob(for ignition) be extended to reach a convient spur?if so, how much is permissable? or is it best to fit a spur in a more local position?
Thanks in anticipation.

aslong as the flex is adequatly rated then yes

It is more elegant to have a fused spur (preferably switched) at a convenient hand-height, like just above the work surface with your ample sockets, then run T&E under the plaster (straight up) to a flex outlet plate close to the cooker hood.

The cooker (if a gas one) can also conveniently have a switch just above the worktop beside (not above) the cooker, going to an unswitched socket outlet behind the cooker, or just beside it. Then you can upuig it for maintenance or cleaning behind it. No fuse needed in the swich because theire's a fuse in the plug. It is elegant to provide switches and sockets similarly for your fridge, dishwasher and other under-worktop appliances.
