Our frontdoor lock has felt loose for sometime.

The two elements that move around are the front plate (part you pull and the other part you put the key into) (first image).

The other elements feel fine.

Before I open the lock for inspection I wanted to know the lock type and if I can fix it?

I want to avoid breaking it or making it worse before starting to tinker about. Thanks!

I may have solved this...

This is a rim lock with a night latch and door pull.

I should be able to unscrew the two screws that will give me access to the cylinder. All that is required is to tighten the screws within the lock (holding in the cylinder?).
