Hi,

I'm replacing a toilet pan and close-coupled cistern.

The new cistern is bottom entry on the left whereas previously it was bottom entry on the right, 15mm copper pipe rising from the floor.

I'd also like to add an isolating valve. The one I have is a Pegler PB300T with 15mm compression fittings. I'm wondering if it's ok to remove the compression nut and olive from one side and use directly the thread.

That way I can use a single flexi hose with 1/2" BSP fitting each end to route direct from the isolating valve and across to the cistern fill. Easy peasy.

The cistern fill valve has threaded brass tail.

The feed is mains pressure.

Any thoughts on the sanity/madness of this idea please?

Does it need fibre washers?

Thanks.

ps. regarding motivations - I do not own a pipe bender (yet) and have only ever used compression fittings. The screwdriver type service valves always weep on me. I like the idea of not having to fight to get things in place when lifting the cistern on although hopefully won't have to touch it again once fitted.

https://shorturl.at/bPQW1 Get these and tighten one in the iso valve outlet, and then screw the flexy onto that and it will seal correctly. The other end of the hose should be ok to connect to the fill valve. Be mindful of the length of length of the hose, so as not to kink it.

Take a flat file and file the sharp edge off of the ISO valve compression end, it's brass so it files easily - hold the file flat and then rub the ISO valve along the file to keep the end square - that then provides a flat surface on the valve end for the seal in the flexi to sit on without cutting into it - do it all the time with ISO valves. The other end will be fine on the fill valve.

Hi, Thanks for the tips and suggestions. This has had to wait due to competing projects!

I tried offering up the flexi and wasn't so happy with the look and considering the comments about not kinking the hose it's just a bit awkward trying to slew across from one side to the other, as the feed comes up from the floor, within the available height.

I'll probably still use a flexi at the cistern and extend the existing copper with a 90 deg elbow beneath the cistern so it's mostly out of sight.

Thanks again.

FYI this is what I have on my toilet, a white flexi hose with an isolator in it.
