I am currently planning on a floating wall back drop to my entertainment center(tv on wall , low units in front etc ). The wall will sit 15 cm away from side walls and ceiling and about 7 cm from fixing wall (thats made of bricks and plaster), to allow for LED lights, cables etc. The wall I am hoping will be made up of pre finished veneered boards.

My thoughts on how to get the boards on the wall are uneducated at best so any suggestions are welcome

My only thought so far is to use two 1x6 boards, make two French cleats for the top and bottom of the veneered boards which for ease of sake say are the usual 2.4x1.2 size and attach to a wall of leveled studs with the other cleats

Also if I go ahead with this method to level the wall out with studs can anyone recommend a type of timber i should be using for leveling a wall out with spacers and studs to accommodate an accurate French cleat ;pre plained, structural, treated, I have no clue ?
