use screws?

I believe they actiual nail in through the tongue. problem is if you come to take them up.

or you could nail them as per normal, use a punch to sink them slightly and a small amount of filler

Blunt the nail point will also stop the tongue splitting

Even easier when you use a Portanailer, has the correct angle and saves a lot of elbow grease.
