Floorboards

From a first time learner...
If I'm intending to use nice old reclaimed pine floorboards (over top of existing nasty modern pine T&G boards) is it essential that I set them at 90 degrees?
Also if the boards have been inside the house for some time, is it likely that they will do any more moving and should I still leave a gap for expansion?
If so ought it to be between boards as well around perimeter?
