Freind has a coal fire with back boiler. In the bathroom the flow from the hot tap is very poor on the wash basin. ANd on the bath the flow on the cold is non existant. What could be the cause. Is it the taps that are shagged or a system problem. There are no isolation valves or flexible connectors to restrict flow

It sounds as if your "freind" (sic) has a house with a very old plumbing system.

I would assume that the taps are also very old and have become faulty.

The obvious thing to do is to drain the system and open the taps to inspect them. The washer has probably collapsed ! At least with old taps they can usually be repaired.

Cheers. But if the washer was collapsed would this stop the taps from flowing

Yes!

The central part detaches and blocks the flow!
