ford focus locking unlocking

i have a 2005 ford focus 1600 ghia. my problem is i cant get the tailgate to open. all doors open ok using the remote or the key but the tailgate wont

try pushing grease into the lock with the key and working it back and forth, my guess is that the key has never or rarely been used as you could open it off the fob, the motor has probably packed up and now the lock has seized due to never being used, also try looking at the lock from through the back seats and see if it can be released through there
