Ford Focus Reverse gear selection

Reverse when you arrive with a warm engine- Then there's no need to reverse with a cold engine

Start the car 10-15 minutes before you need to leave - the neighbours will soon club together to get it fixed.

More seriously - Chri5 has the right idea, or if you can't/won't do that, why not engage reverse after you've parked, and leave it there? As long as you remember to dip the clutch when starting you'll be fine.

It might also be worth asking on the Car Repairs / Maintenance forum.....

I had a car where the engine had settled down on it's mounts over time, throwing the gear linkage out of alignment.

In the end, I had to lift the reverse lock to find first and second gears, and reverse was nowhere to be found. Replacing the engine mounting rubbers cured that one.

drop it into 1st gear first, it works for my focus which suffers the same affliction
