I'm planning a garage conversion. Rather than the traditional brick and window frontage to fill the doorway, I wanted to use upvc cladding below the window to match other areas of the frontage. I thought that it would be necessary to build a block wall and then clad with upvc. However I wondered if a timber frame construction may be a better option, being cheaper and easier to construct, and from what I have read, a properly constructed timber frame offers better thermal insulation than brick / block.
I guess what I'm asking, is .... Is this acceptable under building regs, and are there any disadvantages to this method?
