I have pad bolts either side of a big wooden garden gate. The problem is that in different weather conditions the gates swell or move slightly then the bolt won't go in the keeper. I am thinking I might have to buy a bolt with a bigger keeper and use the keeper on the original bolt just so theres more sort of wiggle room.
Any thoughts or better ideas out there ( sure there will be)?

I have my padbolts going into holes drilled in the posts. I drill the holes a bit oversize to accommodate movement.

If your posts are not big enough for that, you could screw a fairly substantial splint to the post for the bolt to seat into.

The steel staple for a rim lock would also do, but they are usually rather insubstantial and will soon rust.
