Hi Guys.

Myself and couple friends (students)have just moved into a property.
Last night we tried to cook using the oven but noticed that the flame went out. However, gas was still coming out of the burner at the bottom of the oven. Should it do this? Is it safe??

I would have thought that if the oven flame went out the gas would switch off somehow??

Many thanks

That sounds highly dangerous!

Presumably you are renting!

Your landlord should have had a Gas Safety Certificate and given you a copy ???

Ensure he gets it fixed and complain to the agent or college if through them if there is no Certificate as that against the law.

Dont use oven until its fixed. Strictly according to gas regs you should not use ANY of the cooker until its fixed.

Sounds like the favourite ACS question and its a blocked oven thermostat bypass.. As Agile has said do not use the oven at all as it is very dangerous and can result in the house going BANG.

don't most colleges vet known landlords now so this kind of stuff should'nt happen?
