had a gas fire fitted and the gas fitter mentioned he cant sign off the fire because the pressure is to low (its 17 should be 20, 19 minimum)

hes saying it could be due to them using a long stretch of 8mm rather than 15mm to get to the fire and suggested that using some 28mm from the meter upto the ceiling to increase pressure?

this is gonna cost me and may not solve the problem what are any other options?

Upgrading the pipe would be the only way to get correct pressure drop, but did he check working pressure at the meter aswell?

As Dean says. He can't sign it off, but he needs to have checked the meter to make sure there isn't a problem there.

To get a job done properly does COST.

Correctly sizing the gas pipe will solve the problem as long as there is not a problem with the meter regulator.

Is it easier to upgrade the first bit to 28mm rather than the last bit?

yeah he said pressure at meter is fine. it would be easier to upgrade first bit as no flooring would need to come up

Doesn't matter if first bit is 2 inch if the last bit is too long same pressure drop will occur.

How long is the 8mm stretch? Who fitted the pipe?

If 8mm run is excessive then upgrading supply upstream of 8mm might not help , especially if 8mm run is in excess of 1mb pressure loss. :p

C'mon guys. ;)

not sure how far they run need to get floor boards up but they have nailed them down so its gonna probabily ruin the taking them up and im on a tight budget so was just seeing how likley the solution is question it too work

Budget has bugger all to do with the correctness of an installation.

It's a bit like owning a big car are moaning you can't afford the tyres.

If you want a gas fire, it has to be fitted and comply with the rules. If you can't afford the work to make that so, then all you have is an expensive ornament.

Sorry dude - that's life.
