good info gas112 but sadly too late....I texted the guy last night to say no and then contacted 1st quote guy today.....its ok no big deal as 1st guy was only £350 dearer...also on the phone the 'homer guy said nothing to vouch for himself after I asked if the his registration waas in his own name...ie he did not defend or explain himself

I think you have. You have the certainty that everything will be above board, rather than hoping that the other guy will be able to run the paperwork through someone else's firm, PLUS you won't have to wait for him to do a "homer" on top of his busy work schedule.
