If only I could put dailymail on ignore!

Buy more from the French Nuclear Stations?, according to wiki, although power can go in both directions, 97.5% of traffic has been into the UK.

It can carry 2000 Mw.

Just a thought.

Oh, and before folks moan about putting money into french coffers, they already own a lot of UK proser generation.....

Apparently, electricity 'brown outs' are imminent this winter, reducing voltage for hours or possibly days. Third world here we come :rolleyes:

Sensible folk could see this coming years ago, when the Government set this ridiculous self-flagellating legally-binding carbon-reduction target.

But of course the Government panders to the Greens and other environmental groups. Perhaps if those protestors against fracking had their names and addresses taken, they could be first to be subject to the brownouts.

We have billions of tons of coal under our feet, and millions of cub.m of gas if fracking was allowed, but dare we use it? No. As the Aussie head of Caudrilla said. we're 'fracking useless'.

This, of course, is absolute nonsense. We have acres and acres of windmills that our wonderful government has had the foresight to install, and we mustn't forget to thank our green friends for persuading them to do so. Surely, this is exactly the situation that they have prepared for when building them... isn't it?

trouble with windmills when you need them the most they often cant be used
typical heavy frost its a still day so little or no power
stormy winters day wind chill down to - 20 too windy so they cant be used

We could burn tree huggers.....Sandals and socks have a pretty high calorific value..

Radio program recently mentioned Irish power station , Moneypoint, possibly being converted to burning wood shipped in from Canada.

Let's all go back to coppicing!

Let's all go back to coppicing!.......ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh matron...I like it :oops: :oops: :oops:

More local community power generation, that uses 'waste' heat to power local homes, increasing effenency from 40% to typically +80%.

Tidal power.

Nuclear.

These are the solutions, but we should have started doing this stuff 15 years ago, not talking about starting 15 years from now.

This is really interesting http://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/

It varies of course, but as I type wind, nuclear and gas have equal percentages. Coal is twice as much as each of them which I find surprising

As I look now:
Coal = 11.47GW
Nuclear = 4.96GW
Gas = 12.17GW
Wind = 3.84GW

I'd expect wind to be minimal, even on a windy day, but nuclear? I suppose some of the stations are out of action at the moment, but the potential is there. As others have said, we should have invested more in nuclear power long ago. Of course, our governments are notoriously short-sighted.
