I am getting a shock of the screws and earth of one wall socket (and anything metal I plug into it).

All other sockets are fine and the only thing I can find wrong is the backbox earth wire to the earth terminal is missing. All other wires are present and correct.

Any ideas anyone please?

You really need to check EFLI which is not (unless you hire the test equipment) a DIY job.

To get a shock there will normally be two faults at least.
1) Something is leaking electricity. i.e. it has faulty insulation.
2) Safety system is not working.
To cure both requires technical know how and good instruments. I would think it is unlikely anyone asking the question will have either and so only safe method is to get some one who has both the instruments and know how to do it for you.
It is unlikely that the wire to refer to as being missing is causing the problem and to try to guide you through the testing is likely to miss faults.
So I recommend you get someone in to do the job for you.

What do you mean by a shock? Just a tingle or something more hair-raising?

Not likely to be static then. Best follow ericmark's advice.
