Hi everyone and a sincere wish for a great Christmas and New Year to you all. I believe that our boiler has developed some scale on or around the heat exchanger unit. Br. Gas guy suggested a PowerFlush, but having read about PowerFlushing on another impartial site, similar to this one, the PoweFlush comes out as a bit of a con for £500/£600 a pop.

Can anyone recommend a good "descaler" that works by putting it in the expansion tank ect. Not sure how effective the Fernox range is.Your advice would be very much appreciated. All the very best..Pete

To properly treat scale or sludge problems it is necessary to fully understand exactly what the initial problem really is.

It sounds as if it needs a professional to investigate the problem. Power flushing is mainly used to deal with sludge in radiators.

There are many chemicals on the market, if you want to just tip something into the F&E tank without knowing what the problem really is then that will be rather hit and miss.

Tony

PS Do you really think that anyone would spend five hours power flushing if the same result could be obtained by "just tipping something into the F&E tank" ?

What has happened that has caused you to know there is a problem?

What has made you believe that it is scale rather than sludge?

Does the system have a chemical inhibitor in it already?

BTW you don't need to make your text big or bold or coloured, you will just dazzle us.
