re: glow worm domestic boiler model 30si fanned flue system

13 yrs ago we moved into the current home, boiler worked but didn't manage to get heat to the extremities of the building.

as part of a kitchen revamp we had the boiler replaced with a more compact/efficient unit as per above.

the house was built in 1979 using relatively narrow gauge pipes for the c/h as normal in the period.

since installation there has pretty much been a breakdown annually, sometimes it takes a week sometimes three with no working boiler.

local heating engineers couldn't fix it so we were forced to take out a £200 plus annual contract with glow worm via homeserve. we have an annual service in addition to this also by homeserve.

homeserve enginners typically commented on sludge being the problem as to why the unit overheated/malfunctioned so we duly paid out for power flushing, additives and a magnaclean filter.

yet still it breaks down and still the engineers say the radiators need flushing.

my question is : -

are these glow worm boilers inherently sensitive/delicate/troublesome or will we have the same if we replace the boiler?

rather than the costs, inconvenience and tension we are now considering replacing the boiler - appreciate your opinions

Who carried out the flush and how long ago was it done?
If the flush was carried out by group service (glowworm) themselves and was less than 2 years ago get them back.

the power/reverse flush of the central heating system was done 3.5 yrs ago by the group service people - thorough job as the guy took all day and worked hard.

if contamination in the central heating is an issue why don't boilers have a filter like motor vehicles so that rubbish isn't sucked in to the carburettors or injection?
