I'm finding info on gravel driveways, but what is an acceptable way of doing a gravel area in the garden for walking on?

I'm planning on putting down 2" of 20mm gravel (not purchased yet). the area has been cleared, and someone suggested laying weed membrane , putting down an inch or so of Type one (which I have) and compacting (its a little uneven) and then the gravel on top.

just doing this now and not convinced this is the right way, as im thinking the Type 1 won't compact and will over time mix in with the white gravel I'm planning on getting.

Should i put the mot on the soil and level, and membrane then the gravel?

skhudy, good evening.

How about?

Type 1

Layer of sand [say 50. mm]

Weed membrane

White gravel?

The sand will act as a buffer between the T1 and the gravel?

Be aware that deep gravel is a pain. We used to have gravel at the front of our house but it was too deep.
