I have 6x50w GU10 halogen lamps (total of 300w) and was looking for a dimmer switch to use with them. I was looking in B&Q and their dimmer switches have a sticker on them saying that they're rated to 400w but only 250w if used with GU10 halogen lamps. I haven't seen this differentiation made with switches sold anywhere else. Can anyone explain this?

I can not say for sure but it looks like the GU10 lamps have a very small "transformer" so it may be due to inductance they have reduced the rating

make sure that the transformer is rated accordingly, I bough two from screwfix thinking they'd be alright, and blew them both. gutted.
