Hi. Moved into a new house and the downstairs toilet when flushed gurgles, water is sucked down then rises back to the normal level at the end. The upstairs toilets flush fine and checked the man hole and water running fine. What could cause this? Thanks
Any ideas on make/model of the toilet? It sounds possible you have a syphonic pan there, these were common fitments in the 70's/early 80's. Royal Doulton made a 'double trap syphonic' W.C.,of which a fair number were fitted and still remain in operation.
These, when fitted with a Torbeck fill valve were almost silent when flushed. Minus points were though they could (and did) block very easily, and great care was/is needed when refitting cistern onto pan after maintenance to ensure an air tight seal on the aspirator tail into the middle trap.
Otherwise, if you have a standard 'wash down' pan, I'd suspect a partial blockage in the drain between toilet and manhole.
