I regularly get what sounds like a 'running/falling water' sound out of the pipes around the boiler - to me it sounds like big air bubbles are escaping upwards - a strange bubbly sound! Anyway, one particular radiator has twice now in the last 6 months accumulated about 6" of air which require bleeding out.

Any ideas as to what causes so much air to accumulate and does bubbles forming in/around the boiler sound plausible and if so what causes it and do I need to get it fixed & how?

most likely that your ballcock has had in in the f&e tank in the loft and it's virtually empty so drawing air in.
