Hi,

I've got an early 1900's Kitchen and study extension on the back of my 1830's Victorian terraced house.

We have a series of gutters that run from the side and the back of the extension, as well as a pipe that drains the waste water from the sink/dishwasher/washing machine - see photo below:

You can see they are emptying into a drain (partially covered by a bit of slate) at a height of a couple of inches. This is making the back wall very damp and causing problems.

What is the best way to fix the guttering so it runs properly in the drain? I am a reasonable DIY'er or do you think that this is a job for a professional?

Thanks

Why don't you try putting the piece of slate behind your pipes to create a shield for your wall.

looks like there are 4 pipes in the pic? possibly an old lead one at low level?
is this still in use? if not block it up properly.
the others could have down pipe off sets fitted to divert water away from the wall. a little trimming would be required.

Could combine the 2 downpipes into 1 if possible, using either a junction or a hopper further up, then fit a bend and short section of pipe at the bottom to direct the water straight into the gulley.

If that doesn't solve the problem then it might be an idea to replace the gulley with a plastic version offering a back inlet connection, and connect the downpipe directly to the gulley. Wastes could also be altered to discharge below the level of the grid avoiding any splashback from those.
