Hair dye on carpet

I have tried everything to remove hair dye stains on my bathroom carpet with very little success; the stains have faded but not disappeared.Someone (post locked) suggested 'rubbing alcohol' as a possibility. She/he was in the US. What is 'rubbing alcohol' known as in the UK
