hall landing 2 way switch

Downstairs landin 2 way light switch needs repairing so went out and bought replacement,however new style switch is completely different.Can anyone help tearing my hair out as to what goes where. Old 2 way wall plate is as follows: top terminals are labelled

'a com' ' b way' ' b way'

A small red wire is looping a and middle b
there is also a red wire connected to the middle b

the bottom terminals are labelled
'
'a 1way 'a 2way' 'b com'

black wire is connected to 'a 1way ' and its partner
red wire is connected to 'a 2way'

the other black wire is connected to 'b com' and is the partner of the red one connected to 'top middle b1 '

the new plate is split and is labeled
top 'com 'com'

bottom '1 way 2 way' '1way 2 way'

can anyone help as to what goues where on new plate.would be greatly appreciated

Your old switch consists of 2 sets of terminals, arranged in a triangle, 'a' has its popint to the top and 'b' has its point to the bottom.

Your new switch is the same, but with both triangles pointing up.

So, connect the red from the old top middle 'b way' to the new right hand com and place the red loop between the two coms at the top.
The Red and Black from the old 'a 1way' and 'a 2 way' to the new left hand '1way' and '2way' then the black from the old 'b com' to the new right hand '1way'. Those black wires need to have either a piece of red sheath placed over them or a piece of red insulation tape (better called 'phase ident tape') wraapped around them near the terminal to show they are actually live conductors and not neutrals.
