Hall/Landing switch problems

I'd be very grateful if anyone could help me this problem....

At the moment, see photo, i have a double switch downstairs and a single upstairs, when wired as in photo the light upstairs can be switched on and off from both switches....but downstairs wont switch on at all...

I have tried disconnecting all the wires and using just the downstairs wire and it will come on/off but not when wired in photo...hopefully this will be any easy one for someone...please help if you can! Thanks...
