Hi

I've searched back through the posts for this but can't find any solutions, so here we go:

After running a bath the other day the boiler went to Lockout and the Red light came on. Pressure was normal at 1.0 and the boiler would keep locking out after being reset. Checking online it said to raise the pressure. I know this boiler is suppossed to work at 1.3bar but experience has shown me it doesn't like that much so I don't run with that much normally.

I put some extra water into the system and took it up to 1.3 and everything seemed ok but I now realised that the boiler is getting to a certain point when the heating is on, stopping and that's when the power light starts flashing (the lockout light does not come on).

The pressure when the system was hot was around 2.5 bar and again from experience it's around this amount that the PRV kicks in and releases pressure (a pain because usually the PRV doesn't close fully because of crud/sludge whatever blocking it and it drips slowly requiring it to be replaced), I can see the PRV has activated as I keep a little bag at the end of the overflow pipe, so I've drained a little pressure out again and we're back on 1.0bar cold.

On Sunday, the day after the lockout, I put in system cleaner with the intention of leaving it in a week to dissolve down any iron oxide and then give the system a flush and refill with inhibitor next weekend but should I do that flush now? Could this be affecting things?

Thanks in antcipation

You don't seem to have done much searching or you would have realised that the pressure should only increase a little when its hot.

It seems the expansion vessel is not operating correctly.

That should be checked at the annual service. When was your boiler last serviced?

Funny, you know I said exactly that the other day Tony "when was the boiler serviced last?"

To be honest it's a number of years! I'm going with last we time we had another rad installed which probably (now that life is whizzing away before me) about 4-5 years ago!

When the boiler was behaving and being normal it had 1.0 bar cold and went up to about 2.0bar when hot, it has 8 rads on it. Does that sound about right?
