Hi

We've a halstead hero 40 - i know! - and at the moment it doesn't always fire. Most of the time it does, but if it's been running for a couple of hours, then it doesn't always (hard to quantify I'm afraid).

I've taken it apart as much as I dare, and changed the APS tubes etc (see previous history with it...). The fan light comes on, the APS light comes on, but it just doesn't fire. Let it cool down for an hour, and it's fine.

Reading some previous threads on here, would it be because the Fan Venturi is just a bit dusty, and not cooling the boiler down properly, so a decent service and clean is all that is needed?

I have to confess it's not been serviced for a couple of years (partly due to the local company having no idea what was wrong last time, and it was only this forum that enabled me to fix it properly...so high hopes!)

Any ideas?

Ta most awfully.

I would suggest a different RGI/company.

RGI?

Unfortunately we live in a small village in the middle of nowhere and choice is kinda limited...

Fan has nothing to do with cooling the boiler! I have a Hero 50 and compared with some modern boilers there doesnt seem quite so much to go wrong, good really as parts seem expensive...

What actually happens when it tries to fire? Fan runs, can you hear it sparking?

nope - no sparking

fan runs, aps works (cos I can hear the click and see the light)

It works when the boiler is cold, when the boiler has been running for an hour, and has reached thermostat temp...then it won't fire (spark) until the boiler has been cooled down again...

thanks
