There are many threads on this topic already, I know, but I am trying to get it clear in my mind before I waste time and money.
We have 22mm (3/4"?) wooden floorboards in the bathroom which we plan to tile with 600mm by 600mm tiles. The boards are sound, but have the usual irregularities expected with a 1950s house. Is the following suitable for overboarding them to minimise the risk of cracked tiles?
3mm ply or hardboard (needed to get the right finished height)
12mm Hardie backer board OR 12mm ply - Which is better and why?
6mm insulation board
Underfloor heating mat
Flexible tile adhesive
Tiles
If we use the backer board, do I screw it in place or use flexible tile adhesive? I have seen both recommended.
We have a bucket of tanking liquid, so can treat the ply or hardboard.
