Just thought I would share this information since I have just done some research on it.
My architect specified a hardwood internal sill 44mm thick.
Being a small builder, I am always looking for off the shelf items, and I found this hard to get hold of locally. The delivery costs would have been over the top.
So the options I came up with were:
1 online timber merchant who had an outlet not too far away (although the size wasn't quite right)
2 Offcuts from a joiners, who sells his offcuts online at the worlds No.1 auction site (not sure I can mention the name but we know who I'm talking about), at a decent price, and exactly the right size.
3 Get my staircase makers to throw in a bit of stringer material. Price is very cheap, will be delivered with the staircase, but only 32mm thick.
I agreed with the architect that 32mm would be sufficient, and bingo, I have what I need. Next choice would have been the offcuts from the auction site
Hope that helps someone other than me
