You need to check your joints. Disconnect the keypad cable at both ends. make sure that the cores are not touching eachother and, with your meter on ohms or continuity test, check all four cores to eachother (1+2, 1+3, 1+4, 2+3, 2+4, 3+4). They should all be open circuit (lots of ohm, no beep). Now twist all the ends together and repeat the excercise at the other end of the cable. This time, they should all be shorted together (fistfull of ohms).
Hopefully (?) you'll find a cable fault. If not, you may have destroyed it!
