Someone has just suggested connecting a heated towel rail to the domestic hot water system so it can be used all year round when the heating is off. Is this feasable and if so is it just a matter of taking 2 tails off a convenient hot pipe? Thanks in advance, any advice please?

What type of system do you have?

If it is an open vent or sealed traditional system with a hot water cylinder, then you take the feed to the rad, from the secondary circuit that heats the hot water cylinder. Very handy to have, as when you are heating your cylinder, you ccan also be drying your towels!

It is, you would have to drain down your CH, and what he is saying is to connect into your return pipe to the cylinder (the lower one).

No, the pipe you will be connecting into heats the cylinder for domestic hot water. Even though it is connected to your CH it is seperated by a 3 port valve, so wont heat up when you only require CH to heat up.

Whenever your cylinder stat is programed to kick in to heat your hot water cylinder, that's when your towel rail will heat up.
