Heating only staying on

For 30 mins then cuts out then have to wait for it to decide what it's doing then it comes on again... Never reaches temp on thermostat and it's a bit of a mystery! Can anyone suggest what it may be? Ps we suspect it could be the 3 way diverted valve but does not explain why only stays on for 30mins
