You should have live in, live out, neutral and earth(if needed)

You may have the lives back to front.

What stat is it?

nope deffo only one cable there...a 1.5 twin and earth

live neutral and earth...but not even getting a reading with a multimeter between live and earth

god i hate things sometimes

wish i would've checked if i had a supply there in the 1st place, i'm stoopid

ah well

Is there a reading between neutral and earth? May not be neutral.

no nothing there at all, even put a little volt stick by all cables and nothing!!!

when placed by plug socket starts beeping like crazy so i know its working!!

pardon my ignorance put where should the supply for the stat come from??

Something is either disconnected or you have a live missing

If a combi, the boiler, if a traditional system, usually the wiring centre/ch on output from programmer.
