I'm looking for recommendations for long fixings of 100mm plus. I'm trying to put up 900mm wide scaffold shelves using brackets same as ones in photo. Have done successfully around flat until trying on a external wall next to deep window bay. I went in 80mm before hitting anything remotely solid. I've no idea what the wall composition is but it just doesn't feel solid enough to take the weight without going deeper into the brick. Any advice on appropriate fixings?

When you say 900mm, is that how far the shelf sticks out away from the wall?

Sounds like you've successfully drilled through the insulation before you got to the wall. One problem you'll have is that any kind of L bracket will naturally exert pressure on the wall, as will the fixings that hold it to the wall. If the first 80mm is essentially compressible you run the risk of ruining the decorative surface by compressing it. You may thus be better with resin fixed threaded bar and use a nut behind the bar on whichever fixing is closest to the compression the bracket applies

Sorry. Wrong terminology. The shelf is 900mm long, 225mm wide and 35mm deep, therfore it sticks out 225mm from the wall.

Try and get hold of some threaded expansion plugs e.g. https://www.fischer.co.uk/en-gb/products/standard-fixings/metal-anchor/brass-fixing-ms

You can put these in as deep as you like on some thread bar, then cut the thread bar off to the wall projection you want and put a nut on. If it's exposed you can use a domed decorative nut. To wind the thread bar in to expand the fixing, lock two nuts together and use a spanner.

They go right down to MS4. - you'll only need a fairly small one.
