Hi, please bear with the terminology but I need advice.
Builders have refused to fit a 10.5 kw cooker as I have a 30amp circuit, which I believe can only take a 7.5Kw cooker and would need to be upgraded to a 40amp circuit.

Questions:

Is he right?
What regulations regarding cooker circuits (if any) exist?
Do they still make 7.5Kw cookers these days?

Any advice before I end up spending time and money on a new circuit just to be able to heat my food :)

No, your builder is wrong. Do a search for the term diversity.

10kW is over 40 amps but you are not going to be using all the elements at once and once they are up to temperature they will be cycling off/on.

I think the formula is 10 amps plus 30% of the remainder of the total cooker rating which comes out at about 22 Amps so it should be fine on your 30A circuit.

Now might be a good time to rewire the circuit though while the builders are around.

If not keep some fuse wire handy in case you need some cooking the Christmas dinner.
