A few days ago the water from my hot water taps started to splutter and then trickle out water. It progressively got worse so that now I am unable to receive any water at all from any hot taps in the house. The cold water is running fine but I have noticed a loss of power in the cold water flow. Im not sure if this is connected but around the same time the tank in my toilet started to take longer to fill.

Please let me know if these are common problems.

Thanks

It sounds as if you may have a loft cistern supplying everything except the kitchen tap.

The first thing to do is to look at the cistern and see if its full of water or empty perhaps because the ball valve has jammed shut?

If its full look and see with a torch if the outlet pipes near the bottom are blocked with anything.

Thanks Tony, I checked the tank in the loft and all seems fine. The main tank is 3 quarters full with water and the small tank attached with the ball valve is half full.

Not sure if I made it clear but its both the kitchen and bathroom hot taps that are not giving me any water.

Do you recommend calling a plumber to have a look?

Thanks for your help

Might be an airlock?

If you can force mains water up the hot tap for 20 seconds that MAY fix it!

Otherwise call a plumber but check the prices first!

We would usually charge £75 if it could be fixed within a reasonable time ( about 1 hour and a quarter ) and then £45 per hour afterwards.

It has been very cold, is there a possibility of ice anywhere? Otherwise, any trace of drowned pigeon or mouse in the tank blocking the pipe? or bit of insulation material, especially if the cold tank does not have aclose-fitting cover.
